He was born in the city of Novozybkov of the Smolensk province. In 1918-1919 employee of the People's Commissariat of Ukraine and Crimea, since 1919 - instructor of the People's Commissariat of Azerbaijan, head of the artistic and educational part of the children's town in Zheleznovodsk. In 1921-1923 he studied at the Higher Directorial Workshops of St. Meyerhold (GVYRM), worked as a director in the theater. Since 1925 - director of the 3rd factory Goskino, k/st "Belgoskino", "Mezhrabpomfilm", VUFKU.
