He was educated at the Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute, but did not want to work in his specialty, instead he entered the Leningrad Theatre Institute at the faculty of acting.
In 1948 he graduated from the Institute and began to work in the troupe of the Leningrad Theater named after Lenin Komsomol, where he met the main director of the theater - G. Tovstonogov. This acquaintance was very useful to the young actor, being Tovstonogov’s assistant, he received invaluable experience not only in acting, but also in directing. In 1960 he became the chief director of the Lensovet Theater, whose permanent leader was until the end of his life.
The best performances of the 1970s, enjoyed great popularity among the audience were “Taming the Shrew”, “People and Passions”, “Left”, “Troubadour and his friends”. These productions, created by the musical genre, introduced a fresh stream into the world of theatrical art and were a great success. /
